Thank You Omaha!

January 29, 2019

I’m so honored to have received the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Award for Best Comedian this year. In addition, I had the opportunity to be part of The Museum of Alternative History at Kaneko, winner of Best Group Show. I recently discussed my experience as a “Star Expert” on “Surely Your Joking” if you’d like to check it out, click here.

Thanks to the entertainment scene in Nebraska, I’ve had the opportunity to meet, work with, share the stage and develop friendships with so many extremely talented people. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make the awards show in person last night, but watching the livestream at Omaha Magazine got me thinking about how our paths and lives have intersected. I’m ecstatic for my friend, Houston Alexander for his Lifetime Achievement Award. We first met on set of the Sketch Comedy Show, Omaha Live! So many fun times at OL!

I first saw Trac Schacht, Best Performance Poet perform at a friend’s art show in Nebraska City. I was moved to tears. The power of her performance - immeasurable. Months later, we would have our first conversation and within seconds bond over our beautiful fur-babies. Jack and Paco are the most awesome! I might be a little bias.

Dan Vaughn, comedian and member of Best World Music winner, The Bishops and I had the most fun on his podcast, “Exploring Omaha – Pothole Edition”. I’m so happy that we became friends. His Throwback Thursday Show at The Backline is one of my favorites! Speaking of the Backline. Dylan Rohde, Jon Herman and the entire Backline Community are the BEST! Congrats on Live! at The Backline’s Best Comedy Ensemble Win! The Backline is such a precious place to me. Thank you for the hours upon hours of stage time and letting me work out that new hour last year! I’m so looking forward to our summer shows together and the Omaha Improv Fest!

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees. I’m so lucky to be from such an amazing, supportive and talented community.

The Omaha Entertainment Awards have been recognizing artists for over ten years. This organization and awards ceremony was cultivated to thank the artists who keep Omaha culture alive. They uniquely recognize the performing arts, live arts, music and comedy in the area.

These awards are 100% community based. Once public online submissions are closed, initial ballots are sent to each genre review committee to analyze the nominations. These committees make sure each nominee fits the criteria and finalize the official list of nominees.

The top nominees in each category are then put on a ballot that is sent to members of the OEAA Academy, consisting of over 100 established artists, industry professionals and cultural journalists. These tallied ballots give us our Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards winners.
